CELEBRATING EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE?
NECO SSCE results this year are the best in five years, maybe so, to decide. But the question is, do the results point out an improvement in standards? Without hesitation, I answer a big "No!" Truth must have ~ing told. EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES have got besides ruthless. In my opinion, out of the upward of 1 million candidates that took interest in the exams, at least 900 myriad must have engaged in malpractice! Is this some outrageous estimation? I want somebody to ascertain me wrong; and the person should exist an SSCE examiner and, or a subordinate school teacher like me.
What we collision during the SSCE marking exercise is usually spirit-boggling! Candidates from centres miles apart having similar answers, similar handwritings, so beautiful, and, in English Language scripts, analysing realities alienated beyond them, graphically capturing their experiences at the same time that undergraduates, workers, postgraduate students and, steady the contrary, failing to pass JAMB-UTME creditably, remote from this brilliance!
The exam malpractice syndicates from one side of to the other Nigeria seem to be uniting in their corrupt and buying over the entire management of the SSC exams, their clients- the students- having small degree or nothing to do to occur the exams. As a teacher, I be possible to testify that over 80% of teachers nominated ~ the agency of school Principals to participate in SSCE supervision are usually their allies in this injurious business, teachers who connive with parents, other teachers, etc to make perpetual the vice of examination malpractice. Candidates in the exams get mere duplicating machines or mere figures. In of the like kind centres where there is this settlement, the answer scripts eventually packaged and sent to WAEC or NECO, are indeed written outside the examination halls or classrooms, or copied materials from photocopies of solved answers smuggled in through the teams of daredevils who favor fortunes during the SSC examinations give relish to!
NECO/WAEC should therefore bow their heads in mortification and stop celebrating EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE....
