WHO OR WHAT IS A BODHISATTVA?
A Bodhisattva is a someone who is in a position to arrive at Nirvana as a Sravaka or in the same manner with a Pratyekabuddha, but out of bulky compassion for the world, he renounces it and goes forward suffering in samsara for the interest of others, perfects himself during an incalculable period of time and lastly realizes Nirvana and becomes a Samyaksambuddha, a abundantly Enlightened Buddha. He discovers The Truth and declares it to the world. His capacity for service to others is absolute. You can also define a bodhisattva in the manner that one who acts as a conformable to a rule adult. The word “Bodhisattva” is a complex word formed from bodhi (spiritual coming out of sleep, enlightenment) and sattva (a being, inmost nature, spirit). During the early age of Buddhism, the word Bodhisattva meant “the previous lives of the Buddha”. One of the greatest works of Buddhist literature is the 8th century "Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life" (Bodhicaryavatara) ~ means of Shanti deva. There are 4 types of divergent Bodhisattva’s which are Avalokitesvara, The Taras, Ksitigarbha, and the Manjusri. The designation of this Bodhisattva means 'He who encompasses the turf'.
