3/4/14 Metamorphosis (Time and Place)
In the novel, Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka describes the protagonist, Gregor viewed like a young lifeless man who human being day wakes as beetle. Through time & arrange in the novel I was dexterous to understand cultural and contextual considerations of the work. For instance, Kafka describes Gregor at the same time that another working bug in society; the pertaining revolution that took place around the similar time as the novel helps portray the necessities of a man in corporation during that time. In the time of the industrial revolution, a working class was practically everyone and drudge filled the lives of mostly everyone. Also, we be required to understand the difference in gender roles during this time. Males were the in the ascendant ones in the labor field, they were expected to take in successi~ harder task; their main way of supporting their families. Women were not expected to drudge, however when they did they would point of concentration on jobs that did not beg much labor, like in arts and kindness to strangers. Also the novel takes place during a time that still believed very much in a Patriarchal society, where males at last dominated and worked; and females were portrayed in the manner that weak and submissive. Because of the condition and little voice of the character, Grete, the novella takes place with appearance of truth in late 19th century, where women rights quiescent were not fully advocated. In the rare, the setting matters and the essential setting is Gregor’s bedroom. Gregor’s room represents his humanity and perhaps too an escape from society’s ways. His desk was important because it symbolized and define him, and in the end depicted that he is human not a bug or moving robot. Kafka presents Gregor as a human to furthermore depict the time period of to what extent a working man is no dissimilar from a bug. Furthermore, Metamorphosis has multiple cultural and contextual considerations that own me to understand the time and grade better.
